Background

Earth Alert is an interactive Web-site designed to introduce students to the concepts of how a caldera such at Katmai Mountain is formed.

Object

  1. The learner will develop an understanding of how a caldera is formed during a volcanic eruption.
  2. The learner will apply this understanding to the Novarupta eruption which formed the caldera at Katmai mountain.

The formation of a caldera is described in both Videos #1 and #2. After viewing, condut the activity at the Internet site listed above. Go to the teacehrs page at the bottom to prepare the necessary materials in advance.

After the activity hold a discussion and refer to the video segmanet that tell about how the Novarupta eruption formed the caldera on Katmai mountain.
