Object of the Activity

The object of this activity is to learn about the early settlers of the Katmai National Park and Preserve lived. You will in this activity:

  • Research video, texts and the Internet to collect information about archeologist.
  • Research video, texts and the Internet to collect information about Native Alaskans.
  • Work under the direction of your teacher to discover "artifacts" in shoebox examples of an archeological dig.

 

Steps to Follow:

  1. Your teacher will give you a shoebox to explore you will play the role of an archaeologist to discover what artifacts they contain and what they tell you about the person who place them there.
  2. Using your "tools" gently uncover the soil and surrounding materials around the artifacts.
  3. Write about what the personality and lifestyle of the artifacts contained in your box.
