OPEN President and Founder
Good morning and good afternoon to those in another time zone.
Welcome to the Learning for Peace videoconference.
DOBAR DAN BEOGRADE!! KAKO STE?!
MARHABA, KEIF HALIK BAHRAIN?!
My name is George Newman.
I am founder of OPEN, which stands for One Planet Education Network.
As some of you may know, OPEN is an international education service company. We develop online and video-based learning programs.
OPEN's educational programs utilize a variety of new media technologies, including videoconferencing, the Internet, satellite television, and DVDs.
Our mission is to bring students from around the world together in order to share knowledge on subjects of common interest, including - music, culture, history, literature, and science.
OPEN also explores new ways of learning and teaching - to improve the classroom experience for all, open up the classroom to the world, and invite the world into the classroom.
The classroom without walls, the classroom without borders!!
We are here today to take part in a special program called Learning for Peace, and we are honoring the OPEN mission by having YOUR classroom be a gateway to the world.
We have schools from five countries with us today -
I'm in New York City USA with several schools from Staten Island and Manhattan.
We also have schools from Belturbet, and a city called Dublin, both in the Republic of Ireland;
Several schools from Manchester and Liverpool England;
One from Belgrade, Yugoslavia;
And one from Manama, Bahrain
Learning for Peace was created to expose one another to the diversity of cultures around the world.
To hear the words and presentations of one's own community, NOT from International TV news, but DIRECTLY from each OTHER, face-to-face, using this interactive technology.
What better way to get other students from around the world to know you AND your community, than for YOU to tell them yourselves.
Starting with today's session we can BEGIN to develop long-lasting working relationships with EACH OTHER into the next school year and beyond.
OPEN intends to go forward with many more long-term collaborations, with your schools and a number of other schools in the global network.
