    Object of the Lesson
     
     In this assignment you will discover what are the major influences that create a canyon.
     
    Next you will use this knowledge to explore a canyon assigned to you to describe its features and characteristics.
     
    Last you will create a report for the rest of the class that describes your canyon.

    This is a Two Part Lesson
     
    Part One:
     
    Working in your group and under your teacher's direction, go to the following web page:
    • Answer the following questions:
      1. What is a good definition of a canyon?
      2. What is the role of Hydrology in the formation of a canyon?
      3. What is the role of Stream Erosion in the formation of a canyon?
      4. What is the role of Gradient in the formation of a canyon?
      5. What is the role of Geology (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary) in the formation of a canyon?
      6. What is the role of Gradation and Weathering in the formation of a canyon?
      7. What are the major types of canons in the world? How are they alike and how are they different?
    Part Two
    • You will assigned on of the following Canyon Web Sites. Go to the site and learn about the canyon.
    • From your research in Part One, classify your canyon, as best as you can, and describe your canyon's features using the factors of hydrology, stream erosion, gradient, geology, gradation and weather.
    • From this analysis, what type of canyon are you assigned?
